FunctionDescription
Area Plot:This function provides a data plot for a user-specified area. The values plotted are either those of the original data, if the selected begin and end dates are the same; or the mean values averaged over the selected time interval. The display is equivalent to the following GrADS commands:

set gxout grfill
d var
set gxout shaded
d var

For more about these commands, please see the GrADS User Guide, http://grads.iges.org/grads/gadoc/users.html
Time Plot:This function provides an X-Y data plot. The monthly value of the data product, averaged over the entire specified area of interest, is plotted as a function of time for any specified time interval. A time series for a single point is also supported.
Animation:This function provides an area plot animation of the requested data product, in monthly increments, for any specified time interval.
Hovmoller (longitude-time):This function provides a Hovmoller time vs. longitude color plot. For a specified area, the average monthly value of the data product is displayed with longitude as the X-axis and time as the Y-axis.
Hovmoller (latitude-time):This function provides a Hovmoller time vs. latitude color plot. For a specified area, the average monthly value of the data product is displayed with latitude as the X-axis and time as the Y-axis.
OptionDescription
Pre-defined:Uses the color palette with the pre-specified default range of assigned values. This may be a linear or logarithmic scale palette.
Dynamic:Uses the minimum and maximum values of the data product in the specified area to create a linear scale color palette.
Customized:Allows user specification of minimum and maximum values for the color palette. A linear scale color palette will be created based on these minimum and maximum values.
OptionDescription
Dynamic:Dynamically sets the minimum, maximum, and interval values for the Time Plot Y-axis.
Customized:Allows user to specify the minimum, maximum, and interval values for the Time Plot Y-axis.
This pull-down menu provides resolution options for Area/Hovmoller ASCII outputs. Please note that the highest resolution option in the pull-down menu is equal to the data resolution and others are lower. For a given resolution selection, the program steps through each of the possible lat/lon, lon/time or lat/time points, and sets each point value to be the same as that of the nearest original resolution point. No interpolation or averaging is performed. If you have suggestions for adding new resolutions, please contact us at help@daac.gsfc.nasa.gov
OptionDescription
Generate Plot:Clicking on this button will launch a new window, and a single plot or animation will be displayed in this window.
ASCII Output:Clicking on this button will launch a new window, and data in ASCII will be displayed in this window. Note: This button does not apply to Animation.
Reset Form:Clicking on this button will reset the user selections to the defaults of the selection form. Note: This button does not reset area selection in the Java version.
Order Subsetted Daily Level 3 Data:Clicking on this button will launch a new window containing instructions for downloading spatial and parameter subsetted daily Level 3 data that meet the user's criteria. Note: Only spatial, parameter, and temporal input selections are used for subsetting. Other input selections (e.g., land/sea, output resolution, etc.) have not been implemented for the time being, and therefore will be ignored. This option has not been implemented in GOCART model products.
Characteristics of downloaded data files:

1) The files are in the HDF-EOS format. User will need to have software that can read and manipulate objects inside the HDF-EOS files.
2) The files contain the parameter(s) of interest over "only" the spatial region of interest available in the file as a 2-dimensional Science Data Set (SDS) object in the HDF-EOS file.
3) The files are subsetted from the Level-3 MODIS Atmosphere Daily (one file per day) Global product (MOD08_D3 or MYD08_M3). See:http://modis-atmos.gsfc.nasa.gov/MOD08_D3/index.html or http://disc.gsfc.nasa.gov/MODIS/Terra/atmosphere/MOD08_D3.shtml
4) The subsetting criteria are obtained from User inputs (Parameter Selection and Spatial Selection) to the GIOVANNI MOVAS interface.
5) The number of files will be equal to the number of days in the time period selection made by the User on the MOVAS interface.
